History of the Vincentian House & The Divine Mercy Retreat Centre, Elavur

The Provincial Council decided to buy a land in Chennai to start a retreat centre for the people of Tamil Nadu. After continuous prayer and our tedious effort we found a place at Elavur. The place called Elavur is in Tiruvallur District in the Archdiocese of Madras -Mylapore. Elavur is 30 kms away from Chennai city Corporation limit.

The land was owned by Mr. N. Mahalingam, Chairman for ABT Parcel Service& Annamallai Bus Transport Limited. From him the land was registered in the name of Tamil Nadu Vincentian Charitable Society represented by its treasurer Fr. Mathew Kakkattupillil on two dates. The purchase is done in two documents: Document Number 1170 for 26 acres and 3 cents of land is registered on 27th April, 2005 and Document Number 1467 for 10 acres of land is registered on 25th May 2005. Thus at the time of purchase we had 36 acres and 3 cents of land. Then in the year 2011 the Highway Department was taking the land for Railway line flyover bridge. Then we had to give part of our land for that public benefit. Thus 1090 sq.mt land (survey numbers 1218C/3B1B2, 1218B/2B) was taken by the Department with the remuneration of Rs. 10,42,631.00
